This time I went farther in terms of working off my experience and illustrating it. In constructing this music, I was thinking about the other day– waking up sleepy, riding the green line into downtown, getting my free flu shot (thanks Daley) and coming home.

Some friends of mine– progressive bluegrass band Joy Kills Sorrow– will be in town and we will be performing together at Uncommon Ground on Devon. We play 9:00-10:00, after a set from Katie Quick. The members of Joy Kills Sorrow are among the top young bluegrass players, in fact, guitarist Matt Arcara took first place at the National Flatpicking Competition at Winfield. They are completing a Midwest tour here in Chicago, after a Minneapolis show with Crooked Still and some other stops. I am excited because they are also coming by the Chicago Waldorf School Open House (where I am teaching) to play and accompany the students in a concert.
If you are coming to Uncommon Ground, please call ahead and reserve a table, so you can avoid the unpleasant situation of not being let in the music area, and it’s hard to hear from the other room.
