The Orange Mighty Trio at the Cedar Cultural Center, 4-16-07

THE ORANGE MIGHTY TRIO

I’ve been playing with the Orange Mighty Trio since we decided to form a band together in the spring of 2006. Our first gig was at the Cabooze and our second was at 7:00 am! We have appeared at the Taste of Chicago, The Cedar Cultural Center, MacPhail Center for Music, Macalester College, and numerous house concerts and have been featured on Savage TV, KFAI, Java Blend, and Bowed Radio.

ORANGE MIGHTY TRIO OFFICIAL BIO

Their music has been called “maverick chamber music” by the City Pages. The Onion writes “OMT meanders happily through jazz and chamber-music styles that would make the group equally at home playing the Dakota, guesting with the Minnesota Orchestra or playing at a county fair.”

Equally conversant in rootsy fiddle music, classical forms and jazz improvisation, the Orange Mighty Trio is a boundary-pushing young band. Each member has plenty of technique and training, but none of them were content to follow an established route, opting instead for the creative energy and adventurous nature of this project. While they respect and know many traditions, their set lists contain mostly original music which they often write and arrange together. Nominated as semi-finalists for “Best New Band for 2007″ in Minneapolis City Pages, no one can say where their music will go next, but you can say it will be orange.
