“Much of Piper’s Crow’s charm is derived from the sparkling interplay between the musicians, especially the exotic bagpipes and assorted wind instruments deftly wielded by MacKenzie and master piper Dick Hensold, while Zack Kline’s fiddle weaves devilishly amongst them and Karen Mueller helps drive the entire business on guitar and bouzouki. This is wonderful stuff that’s musically provocative while rarely failing to elicit a smile or an urge to bound about the room.”

Welcome to Fiddler’s World. Original works form the core of the album, offset by arrangements of a couple of traditional tunes– the American Shenandoah and a medley of Celtic fiddle tunes. Building on his broad experience in the many styles of fiddling he knows and loves, Zack distills what he’s learned into something identifyable as his own. The title track with its innovative “slam hitting technique” has been featured on NPR’s Open Mic and Bowed Radio.

Parts of this may remind you of 20th century music and at other times a myriad of fiddle styles will be evoked. Somewhere in between — that’s where you’ll find the “orange-ness.”

PRESS FOR THE ORANGE MIGHTY TRIO EP:

“Combines mountainy roots music with urban jazz and hints of classical, careening between beautiful, bold and a bit of bombast.” — Chris Riemenschneider, Minneapolis Star Tribune

“Sometimes playful, sometimes dark, sometimes airy–always fascinating.” — Dwight Hobbes, Pulse of the Twin Cities

“Kline’s fiddle, which also graces the Celtic-folk outfit Piper’s Crow, leads the way, emulating Grappelli here, Heifetz there, Vassar Clements over there.” –Rick Mason, Minneapolis City Pages
