Wednesday Feels Like Tuesday

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

This weekend the Orange Mighty Trio gets to collaborate with Maggie Bergeron and Co. dancers, on a show we are calling “Wednesday Feels Like Tuesday.” Our silly-yet-serious summary, below, illuminates our “scientific” topics, which include the vagueness of memory and the sensation of being transposed in time…that is, when Tuesday really does feel like Wednesday, or maybe the other way around.

The passage of time has long occupied artists and scientists alike. Now, a new group of artistic researchers has made a breakthrough, realizing sometimes “Wednesday feels like Tuesday.” The scientific team of Maggie Bergeron & Company dancers and the Orange Mighty Trio musicians share stunning new insights into the space/time continuum. Movement and music careen through time, opening and closing worm holes and portals, including the doors to the Bryant Lake Bowl.

Happy New Year to one and all! I was in the land of snowdrifts and it was 20 below one morning, while I was there. That froze the car doors shut!

I had the pleasure of going in the studio with Katie McMahon to record her next Christmas album, which will be out next year. I always enjoy being at Wild Sound in Minneapolis, and the challenge of not psyching yourself out, while knowing that you want to produce your best work. It turned out well, and will be full of Irish tunes and Christmas carols. (Nice vocal harmonies written by St. Paul composer David Moore!)

Then, the Trio stopped by the “Rosemary and Meredith Wilson Harmony for Mayo Series” at the Mayo Clinic, where they have music every Monday. It was nice to get to play together after a few weeks off. In the few minutes we had to chat as a band, before I headed back to Chicago, we discussed various things pertaining to: our dance collaboration coming up on Jan 17 with Maggie Bergeron and Co. dancers, our soundtrack work for Joe Swanberg’s upcoming film “Silver Bullets,” and the gigs we have in the spring at the St. Louis Art Museum and the University of Denver. There is much work to be done!

Over and out–
