Lutefisk Dinner (student performance)
It’s the annual “entertain the fish eaters” event that started it all. At least, fiddle students and teachers have been providing entertainment for probably 20 years at this well loved fundraiser at Emmanuel Lutheran in St. Paul. Come eat Lutefisk…if you would care to!
GTCYS plays my Irish arrangement
Details forthcoming for this afternoon concert. I will be workshopping with the students to help them learn to play a set of Irish dance tunes. I am excited to both teach them about Irish music and to create a new arrangement for orchestra!
MN Scottish Fair Ceilidh
Come dance yourself silly. I play tunes with Dick Hensold the piper and mastermind, Victor Zupanc of the Children’s Theater and Mike Cramer on guitar.
Fiddle Pal Camp
I have always wanted to teach at Brian Wicklund’s camp! This year, I am excited to join all the other great teachers for 4 days of fiddle! Head to the camp site for more info https://www.fiddlepalcamp.com
Technique Jam
My new class, sponsored by the Minnesota State Fiddle Assocation. Exploring fiddle techniques and warm-ups through group jamming! Open to violin/fiddle players of all ages and levels! And free! Come join us in the beautiful Chapel room of this former convent, which is now Center for Performing Arts.
Sister Esmerlinda at Lincoln Center of the Block
We play at this fun outdoor neighborhood music series organized by Val Cohn. Bring a chair, food and drink, and tips for your friendly neighborhood music makers.
Scottish Festival - Dance Set
The Scottish Festival is nigh! Whenever I do play for dancers (which is just once in awhile) I always think “this is the roots of all fiddling!” I’ll be joining Dick Hensold, Tim Sparks and Victor Zupanc playing Celtic dance music…like in the video below. Come out and dance to end of the festival if you like!
Sister Esmerlinda at Center for Performing Arts
Exact location: We will be playing in the chapel at CFPA. Enter the lobby from either Pleasant or 38th St and follow signs to find it on the second floor of the old wing of the building (above the sunroom).
Dean Magraw and I have played a few times per year for many years. We play fiddle tunes and our own compositions. With this concert we will be debuting our band name, and perhaps some material we’ve never played as a duo before! Join us in celebrating my birthday (one day late) with this special concert.
This is also an experiment for us in doing it DIY, that is, being the organizers and promoters of the whole thing ourselves. This is possible thanks to the CFPA and their mission of enabling artists to “do their thing” by keeping their rental rates reasonable and having a variety of spaces available for people to use. It really is a great place and a beautiful building (it is a former convent to which they have added a modern addition).
Hope you will come out to the birthday bash!

Special cameo at OK Factor and Sprig of That double CD release
These two bands are in roughly the same vein as mine, and we’ve gotten to know each other and shared the stage once in awhile. This time Orange Mighty Trio will be happy to join in on a few tunes to help celebrate new releases from our friends. (I call it the Mighty Sprig Factory when we all play together.)
Sprig’s new album Bloom was recorded in Nashville and sounds as good as anything out there. OK Factor has now logged 10 years writing energetic, fun tunes that just might get stuck in your head. The OMT will try in our own way to take the place of the Swedish guys who play on the album and in the video below.
