Welcome to my online fiddle school.
The seeds of this project probably go all the way back to when I first started teaching and began looking for cool tunes— things that I really liked— to teach to my students. I began creating arrangements of these tunes as well. I have continued collecting and reconstituting materials over the years, as I have taught my weekly private students.
Fiddling is for everyone, a living language, constantly changing yet based on tradition. I certainly enjoy passing it on because it has been so rewarding for me, this music that belongs to everyone and no one, in which there is room to be both traditional and personal.
Blackberry Blossom (Arthur Smith)
Arthur Smith was the source of the Bluegrass standard Blackberry Blossom. I have notated his version, explained some background and discussed how it related (or doesn’t) to Garfield’s Blackberry Blossom.
Music for a Found Harmonium
Did a little research into a perennial favorite of mine, explained what I found, and transcribed the music from the original Penguin Cafe version.
